Kanpur, one of the biggest and the most popular industrial centre in Uttar Pradesh, possesses its own historical, religious and commercial importance. Being on the banks of the river Ganga, mythologically, its name was derived from Kanhiyapur (the city of Lord Krishna). Earlier, it was referred to as the Manchester of the country, but now is also called the commercial capital of the state.

The All Souls' Memorial Church in Kanpur is beautifully built in bright red brick with polychrome dressings, following the Lombardic gothic style.
